The 2005 Ocean Observing
Educator Institute workshop
was themed “Seasons
in the Sea: Understanding
Change in the Gulf of Maine
through Buoys, Boats and
Satellites.” Held at
the University of New Hampshire,
Durham, NH, this workshop
focused on the seasonal changes
that occur in the ocean in
plants and animals much as
they do on land.
Mrs. Johnette H. Williams
and Ms. Jasmine Charity,
of Camelot Elementary School
in Chesapeake, Virginia,
Dr. Stephanie Johnson, Prinicipal
of Camelot Elementary School,
and Diane Watkins, Principal
of Cedar Road Elementary
attended the workshop in
New Hampshire. While there,
Mrs. WIlliams
and Ms. Charity
also gave a presentation
entitled "Oh Say Can You
See... What You See in the
Sea".
This workshop provided
participants with new material,
land and ocean research
experience, and classroom
activities for delivering
ocean science subject matter.
Participants utilized computers
and web based information
to learn about the Gulf of
Maine. By tracking changes
in plant and animal patterns,
teachers were able to track
seasonal changes. |
