The Department of Curriculum and Instruction of the College of Education Grambling State University and the North Louisiana Reading Council sponsored the 20TH ANNUAL SPRING READING CONFERENCE on April 8, 2014 in the Favrot Student Union at Grambling State University from 6:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m. The theme of the conference was "The Reading-Writing Connection: Strategies for Enhancing Climate Change Concepts" with Dr. Darnell Johnson, E. V. Wilkins Endowed Professor of the Dr. Helen Marshall Caldwell School of Education and Psychology at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) in northeastern North Carolina as the featured speaker for the occasion. Dr. Johnson gave a brief overview of the research done by two professors from Grambling who participated in 2012 -2013 NASA summer workshops offered by Elizabeth City State University and the University of New Hampshire (UNH).

Drs. Loretta W. Jaggers and Waneene C. Dorsey from Grambling along with at least thirty-two additional professors from minority serving institutions of higher education joined ECSU and UNH under the NASA Innovations in Climate Education grant to empower faculty of education programs to better engage their pre-service teachers in teaching and learning about global climate change through the use of NASA observation data sets. Dr. Jaggers' ED 452-Advanced Seminar Methods undergraduate students made several presentations and published textbooks that focused on the appropriate content, activities, instructional strategies and assessments necessary for early childhood and elementary student projects on Climate Change.
