My name is Christopher Lee Smith and I am from Turkey, North Carolina. I
was born to Robert Henry Smith and Brenda Faye Powell on November 2, 1977 at Sampson
Memorial Hospital. A good description of myself would be that I am a 21 year old African
American male, 6'3, and 240 lbs.
Union Elementary School, Union Middle School and Clear Run
School were the schools that I attended in my early youth. I graduated from Union High
School on June 7, 1997. During ,the fall of 1997 I begun my postsecondary education at
Elizabeth City State University. Currently, I am a rising junior majoring in Computer
Science with a concentration in Business Administration. The Spring of 2001 is my
expected graduation date. My career objective is stated on my resume. I am currently
working at Elizabeth City State University as a Resident Assistant for the Ronald McNair
Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program.
Helping the students with question they have concerning the
program or the plan. My primary function as Resident
Assistant is to oversee the Residence Halls where the McNair Scholars reside. I assist
with the McNair Scholars program in facilitating other programmatic activities. I
help the students with any questions that they might have concerning their
responsibilities as McNair scholars. My responsibilities as a Resident Assistant
also includes working with the Dorm Director to facilitate check-in and check-out of the
residence hall, reporting any and all incidencesm, closely observing the students and
confront unacceptable behavior, reporting any violation of the rules to the McNair office,
calling the McNair office on a regular basis to "check-in", serving as an
exemplary role model at all times, being familiar with each student's medical needs and/or
other needs as it relates to the McNair Program, and performing other related
duties. Helping the students with question they have
concerning the program or plans for the day is another part of my job. I also work
in the office doing miscellaneous errands that need to be done and I take pictures to put
in the Ronald McNair scrapbook as a record of the various workshops, research and trips.
The contribution I bring to McNair is two years of working experience under the director
of McNair and my many ideas that I feel can make the program run more smoothly.
